Bubbling Bicarb and Balloons.

Usually Saturday mornings are busy with trips to the library, shops, birthday parties etc. and most often we are not at home for much of the day, partly because of the errands and partly because Grant is usually working and appreciates some quiet!

Today, however, he went to work at a friends place so we didn't have to rush out and I didn't need to go to the library. So we pottered around sorting still-wet-after-five-days-of-hanging washing.

Abigail was desperate for a friend to play - which doesn't happen often because the afternoons are so busy, so I thought we should take the opportunity to invite a friend today.
So arrangements were made for Bryce to come around.

While he was here we did some "science" experiments to keep them happy and occupied.
I had seen an experiment on a blog that I follow(http://www.se7en.org.za/) that looked easy and fun and I found another on a kids science website.

The 1st one involved some easily available household ingredients, a glass jar and a spoon:
It's really quite simple, mix some vinegar, liquid soap and food colouring in a glass jar.

Add some glitter and stir!

Then, add a teaspoon of bicarb, sit back and watch:

Then we got some chairs set up with wool (string) tied between them and threaded through a straw. Then 2 eager blowers got their balloons inflated, attached to the straw and a race was on!:

They had a lot of fun and there was very minimal mess, no cost involved and only a little setting up required. Perfect!

Hey Debs

The morning looked like fun. Sorry I missed out on some science. Thanks for having him again and for imparting a little knowledge to my little boy.
